In the documentary, “The Painful History of Dentistry,” by HOW IT WAS, we learn that the pre-historic pagan way of dealing with teeth pain was casting a spell. It was believed that the ancient Egyptian society is the first to fill teeth with dental materials. The dentists filled their teeth using gold.

What it explains is that during medieval times it was believed that tiny worms inside teeth were at the root of toothache. The solution for this problem was to ignite henbane seeds by inhaling the smoke.

This bizarre set of beliefs would endure for a long time Pierre Fauchard, a dentist who invented many tools for the dental profession which later were adapted for the current dental practices. As society began using the latest tools with greater ease however, the first electric drill didn’t come until 1875.

There’s been numerous ideas and techniques that center on tooth pain. It’s interesting to learn about however, I’m glad we’ve got the practices in place today.
